I’ve been taking documentary photographs for 15 years–everything from nature to sporting events and weddings to births and family portraits. More recently, I’ve felt called to focus my photography on birth and families after an afternoon spent editing photos from a birth I was honored to document. I found I had tears in my eyes as I looked through the images and relived all the moments the birthing mother had experienced, contraction by contraction, push by push, touch by touch. The images captured her joy, pain, struggle, and so much love with her partner, her sister, her midwife, and her new baby. I knew that documenting birth as it unfolds in its natural beauty was more than my work, it was my vocation. I approach birth as a documentary photographer, out of the way but capturing images that tell the elation and intensity of your baby’s birth for years to come.
I am myself the mother of two energetic children, one born in a hospital and one at home, making me comfortable with birth in a variety of settings. I’d love to work with you to document your birthing journey.
More special birth moments in my birth portfolio.
Macy was able to capture the birth of our third baby with more thoughtfulness and emotion than I ever could have hoped for. She has an incredible talent for capturing detail and her gift shines through in the photos she creates. She makes special moments permanent through her photography, which is something really amazing. We are so glad that Macy was there with us for such an intimate and empowering experience. – Melanie E.
Macy is an incredibly talented photographer who was able to capture all of the personal moments and special details of my birth while somehow remaining completely unobtrusive and respectful of our space. I will always treasure the images she captured of my son’s birth and am so grateful to have a photographic record of that morning in all its intensity and joy. She also shot my pregnancy and newborn photos, further proving her ability to faithfully and beautifully document our growing family. – Julia B.
